ENCOURAGING EXPANSION., [Pek Phess Association.] Wellington, .May 21. Regarding tin- fruit industry in New Zealand the “Evening Post” gathers fi'oiu authoritative sources that in five years’ time from to-day the output of the orchards in the Dominion will he a million and a halt eases, and this will lie enormously increased each year thereafter. The estimated area to he planted in commercial orchards during the coming season ol 1!)1 I in the dificient districts is as follows: —A\ haugarei do acres, North. Auckland .ioH, South Auckland 55, Auckland suburbs ami Poverty Bay 25, Waikato ami Bay of Plenty 13, Hawke’s Bay 150, Taranaki 20, Manawatu and Wairarapa GO, Hutt 70, Marlborough 500, Nelson 100, Christchurch suburbs T North Canterbury and Westland 200. South Canterbury 100, Otago and Southland 300, total 2519 acres. 'Phis will bring the estimated total acreage in fiuit in New Zealand to 11,610 acres, an increase of 12,750 acres in six ycafs. Of this total increase Nelson district contributes over one-third. I]> to date the export of fruit from Xeu Zealand is in the neighbourhood of 85.000 cases, and it is estimated that the 100,000 mark will ho reached before the close of the season.
