AMUSEMENTS.

BERNARD’S PICTURES. To-night’s new series of pictures features Vitagraph’s celebrated actor, Maurice Costello in the latest released drama, “God Remembers when the World Forgets.” The story is most pathetic, yet it has its ready comedy element throughout. A supporting programme of star features is headed by Edison’s latest released drama, “What, Shall it Profit a Man,” the plot of which is as follows: —Gilbert Storm and Robert Grimsby were partners in a piece of mining property of undetermined value. When the assayer brought his final report to Storm’s office, he learned that the mine was a property of incredible richness, and in his excitement ho regretted that Grimsby’s holdings in the mine were considerably larger than his own. He decided to give the assayer five thousand dollars to prepare a false report, which showed that the mine was practically worthless. Dazed and crushed by the

news, Grimsby accepted Storm’s words of condolence and the meagre cheque which Storm gave him for his worthless stock. One day Storm’s wife discovered the two assay reports in his desk, and demanded that her husband make* restitution. Flushed with the pride of his growing power in politics, he sternly refused, and went out to address the enthusiastic band of voters from his balcony. In the midst of his speech, Mrs Storm appeared and told the voters the truth, but Storm succeeded in convincing the crowd it was a mistake. That evening, Grimsby crept into Storm’s study, but his intentions were interrupted by the appearance of Mrs Storm, and the family doctor.
