SCENE ON THE HIGH SEAS.
New York, May 13. The Old Dominion liner Jefferson, on which, eight men were killed by an explosion, has arrived. The passengers state that when the explosion occurred the first officer fought back a score of maddened negro passengers, who sought to throw themselves into the sea. A woman passenger attended four of the survivors of the steam-fill-ed compartment, saving their lives.
