DEFENCE OF THE PACIFIC.
MR MYERS IN CANADA. [Bt Emotbxo Teusgeaph—Copybight] {Unite) Pbkm Association.] Vancouver, May 12. • Mr Myers', of Auckland, interview •d, said he was glad to recognise that the'lmperial spirit was growing in Canada equally with New Zealand. The' vital question for. consideration now was the 'defence* of the Pacific. 'The. time for definite action had arrived. The foundations ought now r t 9 be laid for the future policing of the Pacific. Canada, Australia, and New Zealand ought to unite for this purpose. While fully recognising their indebtedness to the British Navy, he felt that the time had arrived when the Dominions ought to •ahare more of. the burdens of Empire. .It was-unpleasant' to think that New Zealand's existence depended on the friendly treaty with Japan. The ■•: creation of even the nucleus of a. navy at the present time was a step .tin the, right direction. If the Empire ever falls apart it will be due to lack of sympathy and lack of im--agmation, caused by lack of knowHedged The interchange of visits o", people's representatives throughout the Empire was eminently desirable.
