“SUPERIOR SOCIETY.”
"NOT GOOD FOR DEMOCRACY." [By Emotbio Telegraph—Copyright] [United Press Association. ! Ottawa, May 9. v Mr Emerson, an ex-Minister of Sir Wilfred Laurier's Cabinet, surprised the House, when the announcement was formally made that the Duke of Teck would follow the Duke of Connaught as Governor-General. Mr Emerson protested against the practice of having , Canada governed by Royalty. The idea of superior society in a democratic country waß not good for a young .country like Canada. The Duke of Connaught was a splendid man in every respect, but Canada did not want German Princes to rule over them, and the sooner the system was discontinued the better. The Press generally welcomes the appointment of the Duke of Teck.
