ELEMENTS OF A TRAGEDY.

A SERIOUS MOTOR ACCIDENT NEAR STRATHMORE. THROWN INTO A STREAM. A luotor accident which had all the elements of a tragedy occurred near Stratiihiore this morning. Mr H. Julian was at Whangamomona yesterday and made arrangements to be motored.in to Stratford. It was arranged that Mr W. Harris, of Whangamomona, should drive Mr Julian to the vicinity of Te Wera, where he was to be met by Mr A. J Davey with his car and taken the rest of the journey. The cars duly met, but Mr Harris decided to continue right in to Stratford, and he proceeded along in front of Mr Davey. Near Strathmore Mr Davey was surprised that he could not see Mr Harris' car and thought Mr Harris had been making very good time to get out of sight. A little further oil'the matter was explained rather Mr Davey seeing a person covered in mud and blood, climbing out on the road. This turned out to bo Mr Julian, who was in a somewhat dazed condition, and the car was'some distance below in a stream. It was explained that something went wrong with the steer, ing gear. The car kept to the road for about -a chain, then ran down a slope' from the road and finally turned a somersault over a drop of about ten feet and landed in the stream. The occupants were thrown out, one oh each side of the car, into a good depth of water and but for, the water it seems certain that* they would have been killed. As it was, Mr Julian received some nasty cuts on the head, and both he and Mr Harris were badly shaken. They came on to Stratford in Mr Davey's car, and Mr Julian was attended to by Dr. Steven.
