ENGINEER’S DARING DESCENT. .By Eleothio Telegraph — Copyright, Times and Sydney Sun Servioks. Rome, May 3. A Hungarian engineer descended the crater of Stfomholi whilst in eruption. He wore a suit of asbestos, a mask over his face, and a metal helmet over his head. He was lowered seven hundred feet into the abyss, when the oxygen apparatus ceased to work. He pressed the electric, button, and his comrades drew' him up in a pitiable condition, the gas having nearly suffocated him. He was also severely injured by the stones and lava which had hurled past him.
