The condition of the mayor-elect of New Plymouth, Mr J. E. Wilson, is satisfactory, and it is expected that the installation ceremony will take place at the hospital to-morrow.
Alleging breach of promise of mariage, Elizabeth Strach, of Ivanhoe, Melbourne, asks for £IO,OOO damages from A. H. Williams, a produce merchant, of Windsor. The case'is to bo tried by a jury.
Dr. A. Dillon Carhery was extraordinarily successful (states information just received by friends in Stratford) in a further examination ho underwent recently, l and was actually second on the list of several hundred other medical men who sat with him. Dr. Carhery proposes to take a final examination for further qualification very shortly and then to spend a few weeks in veal holiday-making and rest, after the hard professional work and study he has been engaged in. He hopes to leave London for New Zealand at the end of August.
’ Elizabeth Ruth, Countess of Devon, entered upon her hundredth year on March 12, when she spent the day quietly at home in Cheltenham, receiving the Holy Communion at.the hands of the rector (Rev. F. L*Estrange Fawcett), and afterwards welcoming a few friends who oamo to offer their congratulations. Her ladyship, who has lived in retirement, for many years at Cheltenham, is a daughter of the late Rev. John Middleton Scott, by a sister of the eighth Earl of Meath, and become in 1849 the second wifo of the tenth Earl of Devon, being left widow fiftyfour years ago.
