SUDDEN DEATH OF A CADET. [Pbb Pbesb Association.! Invercargill, April 27. A sad and most unwelcome incident occurred in connection with the ; cadet review hy General Sir lan Hamilton here to-day. As the cadets were leaving the showgrounds after the review, where the inspection was held, a hoy of about eighteen years, a member of the Mataura squad, named Thomas McDermott, who was employed at Mataura, suddenly pitched, forward and fell on his face. He was picked up and carried to the .hospital adjacent upon an improvised stretcher, but on examination life was found to he extinct. MOTOR-CAR OUT OF HAND. Wanganui, April 27. A serious accident occurred on Sunlay. As Misses Southey and O’Reilly and Mr J. J. O’Reilly were motoring to Waverley, the car got out of control, went through a fence, and fell over a bank a distance of 120 ft. Miss Southey is in a private hospital, suffering From a fractured skull and a fractured thigh. Her condition is very serious. Miss O’Reilly is also in the hospital, but is not seriously hurt. O’Reilly escaped injury. DYNAMITE EXPLOSION. Taihapo, April 27. In the bush at Ohutu this morning Patrick Moore was ramming a heavy charge of blasting powder to make a way for a tram line, when the powder exploded prematurely. Moore received the full effects in the face, and was blinded. There is little hope that he will recover bis eyesight. His left hand was also badly mangled.
