HOLLAND’S SENTENCE.
STATEMENT BY THE MINISTER OF JUSTICE., [Per Pbrb« Association.! .■ Wellington, April 28. In connection with Holland’s sentence, Mr HerdniaiV informed v “Post” reporter that Holland ’wa? convicted by a jury after a carefur investigatioh’. It was 'not serious!:suggested by anyone that he was no' guilty of the offence. The Chict Justice passed a sentence which In considered reasonable under the clr cumstancs. He kneAv no reason which would justify him in advising the Governor to interfere with tin' sentence imposed. To accede to tin wishes of those who were petitioning for Holland’s release would be t< make the administration of justice ridiculous. This whs not Holland’?-' first offence. He was convicted on two other occasions. In Sydney in August, 1896, he was convicted o criminal libel and fined £SO, in default three months’ imprisonment, arc at Albury in May, 1909, he was cor victed' of sedition,'and sentenced tc two years’ imprisonment.
