INTRODUCTION TO TAKAPAU. -‘DRY” CANTEENS. £Psb Pekss Association.] Dannevirke, April 27. The territorial encampment at Takapan, which, when undei , weigh, will be the biggest yet held in the Dominion, commenced on Sunday, when men from all parts of the Wellington defence district, about 4000, arrived by ten special trains, the last contingent from the Main Trunk reaching Takapau late last night. The transport was carried out without a hitch. The'men had a depressing introduction to their future home for a fortnight, as it was raining practically the whole of Sunday and well into the night. To-day ’ the weather is fine. On Friday next, the camp will be supplied by an additional 2000 men. and Sir lan Hamilton inspects them on May sth and Gtlr, One of the men engaged in Wellington as camp cook was arrested on arrival, being helplessly drunk, and he was remanded for a week for medical treatment. Liquor is totally prohibited within the precincts of the camp.
