UPPER HUTT EXPLOSION.

MORE EXPERT EVIDENCE. [Per Association.] Wellington, April 24. At the inquest regarding the Upper Hutt explosion to-day expert evidence was given by Professor Easterfield strongly supporting the . acetylene theory of the explosion. If a sufficient quantity of acetylene could be assumed to be inside. the building there was no need to proceed with the inquiry further. He held that 20 cubic feet of acetylene would, with a theoretical quantity of air, cause as violent an explosion as a boiler 10 feet long and Oft in diameter at GOlbs per square inch pressure. Mr Wiiford suggested that the experts be allowed to examine each other in turn, the Coroner to act as a jury and decide. It was impossible for laymen to examine experts, who knew too much.
