THE MEXICAN MUDDLE.

THE APOLOGETIC SALUTE. [•By Electric Telegraph—Copyright! [United Press Association.] (deceived 10.55 a.m.) Washington, April 17. At the eleventh hour Huerta demanded that the United States fleet answer gun for gun of the Mexican salute. The American Cabinet, hastily convened, refused the demand, and decided to allow the fleet to proceed to enforce the salute- as originally fixed. The Cabinet is practically unanimous i that no further time will be Huerta -to comply with the American demands. Huerta's latest demand is considered merely as,a move to.maintain, prestige in the eyes of his countrymen. It is pointed out that * the • return of the salute gun for 'gun .would make the apology valueless.
