EAST RIDING ELECTION.

[To The Editor Stratford Post.] Sir,—On the eve of the election for two members for the above important Riding, it would bo well if the ratepayers would fully consider the great opportunities of having a radical change in the personnel of the Council. The chance is now with them, and in electing Messrs Fryday and Stanford to fill the vacant positions, the electors would, I think, be doing wisely, as the two candidates are fully conversant with the requirements of this, the most important Riding in the whole of the electorate, and at the same time the most neglected. Now, we may presume, with these two energetic and practical men on the Council they would make it their business to inspect the roads and take some live interest in the work and incidental repairs necessary for their maintenance, this being one of the purposes for which the bulk of the ratepayers give the candidates their confidence and support. Many of the old councillors talk of necessary changes, but though some of them with years, of experience in County business, have so far formulated no reasonable scheme of reducing expenses, or forwarding on neces-

sary work, while at the same time, in many portions of the East Riding 5 the maintenance of roads is going from bad to worse. Under these conditions then, it seems only reasonable to demand a change, and if a persistent interest in the affairs of the Council will do it, then Messrs Fryday and Stanford are the men, and with new infusion this Council might emulato the work of the Eltham Council, which is recognised as the most up-to-date in the colony.—l am, etc., MICHAEL KERRISK.
