A London cablegram announces the death of Ladas, winner of the 1894 Derby. A Sydney message states that Allured has been scratched for the Doncaster Cup. At the Auckland Trotting Club's Meeting, which opened on Wednesday, Mr J. Fitzgerald's Ariana, from the seven seconds mark, won the principal race of the day (the Alexandra Handicap, of 25050v5., two miles, in harness), and later in the day, ran second in the mile and a-half Stewards Trot Handicap. Mr Fitzgerald's consistent trotter is trained by Mr J. Butler, of Stratford. The weight-guessing competition for pen of two lire sheep at the Maketawa Factory sports yesterday, was won by J. Sutherland witli a guess of 2121!is So/.s. The second prize went ro a guess of 2121bs I<ws.
