Mr H. A. AVunsch, Midhirst, was granted a land agent’s license at the Court this morning.
A first-offending inebriate was convicted and discharged at the Court this morning.
The annual meeting of the Taranaki Rugby Union is to be held this evening in the Stratford Borough Council Chambers.
A lecture entitled .“America and the Americans” will be given in the St. Andrew's Hall next Friday evening by the Rev. J. Pattison.
Judgment by default was given in the following cases at the Court this morning:—W. Hannah v. G. H. Ward, £8 7s lOd, costs £1 12s 6d; Betsy M. M'cCallum v. Kate Paton, £2 8s 6d, costs 10s; D. Butchart v. Wm. H. Thomson, £2 18s, costs 10s; Andrew R. D. ’ Carbery v. Roland G. McLeunori, £2 15s, costs 10s; Stratford Printing and Publishing Co. v. Thomson and Dohertv, £6, costs £1 3s 6d.
Anton J. Hintz, licensee of the Toko Hotel, pleaded guilty at the Court this morning to failing to keep liis outside light burning on March 18th, pleading in extenuatidh that he did not know he had to keep it burning. Sergt. McNeely said he was outside the hotel about 10.15 p.m. and saw the outside lamp turned out from inside the house, the licensee then proceeding to bed. The S.M. said defendant should have made himself acquainted with the law covering his business when he went into it. A line of 10s, with costs 7s, was imposed.

The Borough Inspector had only two cases at the Court this morning. H. Linn was fined 20s, with costs 7s, for driving a gig in Juliet Street on March 14th without lights. The Inspector said defendant had only one light, which he was carrying in his hand. Mr Stanford, who appeared for defendant, said defendant had been on a trip round the Mountain and on his return to his home near Eltham he learned that a neighbor was detaining two of his cows. He came through at once to Stratford to take advice as to recovering the cows. R. Susans was convicted without costs for having driven a gig without sufficient lights on March 13th. Defendant said both lamps had been lighted, but c • w«»*it : mi.l the moon was so brilliant that he did not notice the circumstance until the Inspector drew his attention to it.
A boy thirteen years old appeared at the Court this morning on a charge of theft. It appears that lie attended the sports at Midhirst yesterday and was noticed hanging about the tent provided for competitors to dress in. It was reported to the police that a few small sums were missing and they watched the tent, but could not detect anyone entering it. After one race, however, a competitor returned to the tent somewhat earlier than expected and found the boy with a pair of trousers in his hand. On being searched a small purse was found on which was the name of a competitor, hut the florin which it had contained was missing, subsequent inquiries showing that it had been spent at the refreshment stall. Mr Kenrick ordered the boy to receive twelve strokes of the birch and ordered his father to return the two shillings stolen.
In the judgment summons case, Boss and Glendinning v. Archibald C. Marr. called at the Court this morning, there was no appearance of judgment debtor, who was ordered to pay £B3 14s 2d forthwith, in default one month’s imprisonment.
A Dargaville Press Association message to-day states : At the S.M. Courtfour offenders were fined £2, £T I Os,/ £3 and £1 10s respectively for failing to attend drills, C. AVingrove was fined £4, with 7s costs, for insubordination at the rifle range in failing to deliver up the rifle lent to him.
