BOWLING.
NEW PLYMOUTH’S BANNER. The meeting of New Plymouth and Hawera yesterday afternoon was the occasion of considerable enthusiasm imong the bowling fraternity, and during play there were numbers of spectators. ‘The game was very close, the seaside club notching the coveted banner by one point only. Hicks .(s), ... 18 (3) Curtis, Tarrant, Hansen, Foy (s) ... 6G THE PRESENTATION. ; The duty of presenting the winners with this Banner fell to the vice-pre-sident of the Association, Mr Parkinson, and in doing so ho conveyed to Mr Penn for the winners i the hearty congratulations of the'.Hawera players. Mr Parkinson thanked the Stratford Club members and their lady friends for the extended to them during the day, and on the speaker’s call rousing cheers were given for the New Plymouth Club.■
On behalf of the Opunake players, Mr Dudley congratulated the winners, and three cheers were again given for the ladies and for the Stratford Club.
Mr Penn acknowledged the generous tributes of the speakers and expressed the pleasure felt by the New Plymouth team at winning the ban ner, though they, too, would have liked to see Opunake victorious. He concluded by calling for three cheers for Hawera, a request which was heartily responded to.
STRATFORD v. OPUNAKE
During the afternoon a friendly game, was played by 'three rinks ot the Stratford and Opunake Clubs, the visitors being victorious by 53 points to 48. The following are the results, Opunake teams being mentioned first:

Harmworth, Clough, Warner, DesForges (s) 19 v. Martin, Penn, J. Masters, Morison (s) 17. The Stratford’s Club vice-president, Mr G. Smart, carried the honors for the day, welcoming the visitors and attending to their material, wants in his usual happy manner.-
