FIRES.
CRAIN STORE DESTROYED.

Blenheim, March 23
On Saturday' afternoon a fire destroyed Corry’s grain store. The building. was erected for the Farmers’ Cooperative Association at a cost of £2OO. It was totally demolished. Details are meagre, but it is understood that thirty thousand hags of barley were destroyed. The origin is unknown. The insurances are not available. Mr Corry at. the time was at u conference of barley growers and merchants. Altogether three thousand tons of stuff was destroyed.
Corry’s fire insurances amounted to £I6OO on the stock, £1750 on the building, and £250 oil the machinery. A paddock of flax fibre half a mile away was fired by the sparks and destroyed two tons.
Wemys’jS timber yard also caught, but the damage was very slight.
AN ARCHITECT’S LOSS.
Hawera, March 23. The offices of Mr J. E. Roe, arcliitect, situated in a two-storey building, were gutted by fire yesterday afternoon. Nothing in the office was insured, and Mr Roe is a loser, as valuable records worth many pounds were destroyed. Mr J. C. Gillett, draper, who occupied the premises underneath, had his stock damaged by water. The building is owned by Mr D. Berry. It is insured for ' £IOOO in the Commercial Union office, and Mr Gillett’s stock for £ISOO in the State office, and for £950 in the Commercial Union office.
SHOP AND DWELLING.
Wellington, March 23,
Last night a fire occurred in a nineroomed dwelling and stationer’s shop in Willis Street, occupied by George F. Woodward. The shop and contents were very badly damaged. The stock was insured for £4OO in,the Royal Exchange, and the contents of the dwelling for £IOO, and the building for £4OO in the Commercial Union.
SAID TO BE DUE TO RATS.
A fire which partially destroyed some stored furniture in a building 1 in Blair Street is supposed to have been caused by rats, partly eaten matches being found strewn about.
