PLUCKY ENGINEMEN.
BRING TRAIN TO SAFETY.
IN SPITE OF BAD BURNS.
Suffering great agony from burns
about the legs and arms, Driver James Bourke and Fireman John Horthett, of the 10.25 train from Penrith (N.S.W.) on Friday night stuck to their posts from Rooty-hill to Parramatta, where (says the Sydney Telegraph) in a state of collapse, they had to be helped from the engine. >
At Rooty-hill the firebox blew out, and both men's clothes cauglit fire. Bourke's trousers and Morthett's shirt were almost burned off. What the ,two men went through after the accident can be well left to the imagination. It meant that if either of -them gave in to the pain he suffered, the train might have got out of cbntroj, with disaster as.a result.
T.At Parramatta the men were attended by tTie railway staff, and ultimately removed to the district hospital.
