EDUCATION BOARD.
TEACHERS' EXAMINATIONS. At the Taranaki Education Board meeting, which was held on Wednesday, Mr W. A. Ballantync, chief inspector, wrote pointing out that under tho new regulations for the examination and and classification of teachers, a teacher, before sitting for an examination, had to forward to the Department a' certificate that he had carried out satisfactorily under a qualified instructor a course of practical work in certain science subjects. He pointed out that this would be hard on teachers in outlying districts unless some arrangements were made for them to attend the required course. He therefore recommended that the Board sanction the closing of certain schools for a term of three weeks from May 25 next to enable uncertificated teachers to secure the necessary practical certificates.—This course was agreed to.
