Die Chamber of Deputies has appointed a Hygiene Committee to enquire into diseases in the ArmjC The War Office has admitted that 37,531 men were sent to hospital in six weeks. Startling revelations were made during the debate in regard to the shortage of clothing and boots, and overcrowding. The contractor at Luneville failed to supply filters, and in order to make the water supply innocuous eau de Javel and bleaching essence were poured into the cistern, with ruinous effects on the recruits' stomachs.
