PRESS ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the United Press Association, Ltd., -was held in the New Plymouth Borough Council Chambers yesterday morning. There were present: Messrs H. Brett, chairman (Auckland Star), G. Fenwick (Otago Daily Times), H. Horton (Auckland Herald), L. P. Blundell ' (Wellington Post), P. . Selig (Christchurch Press), G. Carson (Wanganui Chronicle, C. S. Smith (Canterbury Times), F. Pirani (Feildiiig' Star), directors, and Messrs R. Bell (Ashburton Guardian), A. L. Muir (Gisborne Herald), E. Darley (Pahiatua'Herald), G. T. Allen (Eke : tahuna Express), J. A. Mackay (Gisborne Times), H. L. Dolamore (Gore Ensign), A. E. Copping (Stratford Post), W. Gottard (Westport Times). W. Atken (Westport News), J. Petrie (Greymouth Star), H. V. Duigan (Wanganui Herald), It. J. Gwynrio (Hamilton Argus), C. J. Walker (Ha'wera Star), A. M'Nicol (Dannevirke. News), A. E. Jones(| (Invercargill News), P. Dinwiddie (Napier Herald), F. 'E. Hyman (Lytetlton Times), W. Robinson (Westport Star), M. M'Robie (Waihi Telegraph), A. A. Lucas (Nelson Mail), F. M'CuHough (Thames Star), F. M'Carthy, W. C. Weston and H. Weston (Taranaki Herald), T C. List (Taranaki Daily News), R. |. Gilmour (Southland Times), J. Coombe (Manawatu Standard), P. Bond (Nel son Colonist), R. P. Furhess (Marlborough Express), A. G. Kerr (Tim aru Herald), and the Hon. W. C. F. Carncross (Eltham Argus). The Chairman delivered a lengthy address mainly, of interest to news paper proprietors only. He, stated that the affairs of the association gen erally were in a condition of efficiency and stability. Satisfactory arrangements had been made for cable ser vice for the next three years, and hpointed out that the association wa> now receiving fifty per cent, mort .than the number .of cables received five years ago. Summing up/ the Chairman said: "Reviewing the whole position I may point out that, tire New Zealand Press Association' pos'; sesses 'one of the most complete cable services in the world." Mr Fenwick complimented the chairman upon his able address, whicl he considered the best ever deliver ed.

' The 'annual report and balance' sheet were passed"," on the motion oi, the chairman, after a brief discussion.
The report mentioned that a fresh agreement had been made with the Australian Cable Association, and the right to use iffie Sydney Sun and Independent Cable Services had been acquired for a term of years. During the year 550,435 words of original cable news had been sup plied, which was more than double the number a fewjyears ago. It was mentioned that 72 paper? now subscribed to the association, of which all but four also take the cable services.
Shares had been issued to six newapplicants during the year. Messrs Brett, Horton, Carson an< Pirani were re-elected to the directorate.
After an animated discussion, Timaru was chosen as the next place oi meeting. A number of votes of thanks were passed to the directors and staff, and the meeting also passed votes expressing their hearty appreciation of the kindness shown to them by the Borough Council and the people of New Plymouth generally.—" Herald."
