Mr •Phil Snowden (Labor member for Blackburn), stated that there were 5000 persons in the blind workhouses, •1000, receiving poor relief, 7000 begging in the streets, and 3000 employed in institutions ;it less than 10s weekly. Mr Asquith (Premier), undertook to consider an inquiry with a view to devising a scheme for national assistance.
