At the inquest on the body of George Tay-or, who was found on the road with a gunshot wound in his liead on February 8, and died six days later, a verdict was returned that death resulted from a wound self-inflicted while in a state of mental depression. Taihnpe, February 14. A man named Samuel Smith, who was stumping with a companion at Mataroa to-day, had hitched his horse to a large stump. In consequence of a pull, the stump fell backwards, striking Smith heqvily on the chest and killing him instantly. His companion (Donald) had a narow escape. Christehurch, February 1-1.
