[P*E PHEBB 'ASBOOUTION\I Wellington, Feoruary 14. At the inquest on the body of George Tay-or, who was found on the road with a gunshot wound in his liead on February 8, and died six days later, a verdict was returned that death resulted from a wound self-inflicted while in a state of mental depression. Taihnpe, February 14. A man named Samuel Smith, who was stumping with a companion at Mataroa to-day, had hitched his horse to a large stump. In consequence of a pull, the stump fell backwards, striking Smith heqvily on the chest and killing him instantly. His companion (Donald) had a narow escape. Christehurch, February 1-1. Charles Par.ions, 81 years of age and single, died at Pananili on Saturday. An inquest was held, at which a verdict of death from natural causes was returned. Deceased is said to have fought in the Crimean China. wars. The body of a man named Bert .loiics, drowned in the river at Kaiwhaiko on Tuesday, was found at Tpokongaro this morning. Waipawa, February 16. Lucy Emily Rowe, -12, married, died suddenly yesterday. A clot of blood i on the brain was the cause of death.
