• TEMPERANCE REFORM. By Eleothio Teleoiiaph —'"ofykigit[United Press Associates, j London, February 13. Mr Leif Jones, M.P. for Rushclift division of Nottingham, moved an amendment to the Address-in-Reply, regretting that there was no reference in the King's Speech to any intention to introduce a Temperance Reform Bill. Mr Asquith replied that it was impossible to pass a measure this session, but it was the intention of the Government within the lifetime of the present Parliament to prosecute legislation of the kind. TWO BY-ELECTIONS. (Received 9.'20 a.m.) London, February 15. The candidates for the Poplar election will be Clark, Unionist; Yeo (recently mayor), Liberal: Jones, Labour. The 1 Insurance Act will be prominent in the Bethnal Green election. Mr Masterraan lias announced a scheme to deal with the grievances of casual labourers. Sir Matthew Wilson, the Unionist candidate, proposes a drastic amendment of the Act.
