The King gave a private audience to Hon. T. Mackenzie, New Zealand High Commissioner, at Buckingham Palace, and also to Mr Denham, Premier of Queensland (states a London cablegram). His Majesty manifested a warm and lively interest in Queensland, and revived the hjppy recollections of his visits. He inquired closely into Queensland progress and hade Mr Denham convey his best wishes for the continued prosperity of the State.

The death is announced of Professor Alphonse Bertillion, the celebrated French anthropologist, inventor of the finger-print sytsem.

Mr Paul Willeox, of Rahotu," has been appointed by the Egmont County Council to represent that body on the Egmont National Park Board.

The Prime Minister (Mr Massey), the Hon. Mr Massey delivered a speech at Te Puke on Saturday night, and, met with a hearty reception. The farmers to-day entertain the party at the Experimental farm, and the townspeople entertain them at a garden party this afternoon and at a banquet TVy leave to-morrow for Katikati and Waihi.

The Rt. Hon. Thomas Sinclair, P.C., Ireland, is dead, states a London cablegram. -Deceased, who was a merchant, was born in Belfast in 1838, so that he had attained the-good old age of 76. He took an active part in the affairs of the Irish Presbyterian Church and was the leader of the Ulster Liberal Party in 1868. He became a Liberal Unionist in 1886, since when he was a prominent advocate of the Unionist cause, and a leading Ulsterman. He was one of the Royal Belfast Golf Club, of wl : ;b he was captain from 1881 to 1883.
