At a conference with the butchers, the masters renewed the offer of 49i hours weekly and a 5s increase, but the men did not agree to the employers’ terms, and nothing definite was settled. A mass meeting of all employers in the meat trade takes place to-day. A meeting of representatives of all the unions likely to be affected in the event of tlie butchers going out on strike discussed what steps should be taken. No information was given as to decisions arrived at, but it is believed a strike is inevitable.
