TIMARU WOOL SALES.

At the wool sale prices showed considerable diversity, consequent on the difference in condition. R ; anges were: Halfbred, 9d to lfjd, threequarterbred Bkl to ll.Ul, crossbred 8?d to'lOUl; bellies and pieces, SJ-d to 9Jd; criitchings, 6id to 7cl; merino, lOd to 13|d.

HIGH COMMISSIONERS REPORT

Wellington, January 26. The High Commissioner cables from London as follows: —

Butter.—The market is unchanged. Danish, per cwt., 121 s New Zealand, 112 s to HGs; Australian, 108 s to 112 s; Argentine, 110 s to 112 s; Siberian, 108 s to 112 s.

Cheese. —The market is steady, and prices are well maintained. Wool.—The wool sales close to-day. The market has been strong, and the tone improved as the sales progressed. There was good demand from fhe Continent, and the Home trade was more active than during the previous series. America has taken about 5000 bales, chiefly confined to best grades, medium and fine crossbreds. They are expected to., operate more, freely later on. Crossbreds improved from id to Id, chiefly owing to the temporary scarcity. The estimated values of superior merinos are Is Id to Is 2d; medium, lOd to lid; inferior, 8d to 9Jd ; fine crossbreds, all grades, Is O.ld to Is 2d : medium crossbreds, all grades, 10.\d to Hid; coarse crossbreds, all grades, KM to lid. On" hundred bales of New Zealand were held over, being nearly all old stock. The Bradford trade is gradually improving. With the prospects of cheap money, the outlook is favourable.
