A conference of amateur sportsmen was convened by Mr Coombos, representative of Australia and New Zealand on tiie International Olympic Committee, for the purpose of forming a National governing body to control nominations and all matters connected with the Olympic Games in which Australia and New Zealand are concerned. A motion proposed that the organisation he called the Olympic Federation of Australia and New Zealand. Mr Bridges, on behalf o( New Zealand, announced that he was instructed by the Dominion Olympic Council to oppose tbp formation of an Australasian governing body, in which Now Zealand would bp only a component paid. He argued that il was the national spirit of New Zealand which opposed delegating to an outside body’ the management oi any matters concerning the Dominion. The motion was carried by 8 to 2, the minority comprising the New Zealand delegates. The latter then withdrew from the conference. The constitution framed hy the conference provides for a governing council composed of two delegates representing affiliated Olympic Councils and one representative elected by subscribers in each State or Dominion to deal with the public fund to defray the expenses of Australasian competitors to the Olympiad.
