The Government is negotiating with Downing Street regarding the proposed -Asiatics Exclusion Bill. It is not. known yet whether -total exclusion of Asiatics will be decided on, as negotiations along these lines are still proceeding between the Canadian and Home Governments. The former lias already decided to introduce an Immigration Bill before the present session ends.

SLIGHTLY BETTER FEELING, (Received 12.15 ; p.m.) Washington, January 22

The House Immigration Committee declined to re-open the hearings on the Bill excluding Asiatics. Members explained that they wished to hoar from Mr Bryan before taking action. The Japanese Minister’s address as delivered at Tokyo was read and discussed thoroughly.

Air By ran declined to say whether he proopsed to reply to the last Japanese Note, hut though the situation was diplomatically bettor, it is understood Japan refuses to abandon the treatment of the whole question by, diplomatic methods.
