STRATFORD OPERATIC SOCIETY.

ANNUAL CENERAL MEETING.

The annual general meeing of members of the Stratford Operatic Society was held last night.

Annual Report.

The following annual report was presented : The outgoing committee has much pleasure in presenting herewith the second annual report and balancesheet, and in doing so takes the opportunity of congratulating the Society, its members and office-bearers on the satisfactory position disclosed *by the balance-sheet The surplus of assets over liabilities now stands, on a cut basis, at £B6, which, considering the comparatively short time the Society has been in operation, must be regarded as very satisfactory. During the year the Society gave four performances of "The Pirates of Penzance," the first two, in October, being liberally supported by

the public. The latter two, in December, owing to counter-attractions, unfortunately resulted in a loss of approximately! £7. This, however, must be regarded-as the price of experience. Reviewing the balance-sheet, it will be seen that donations received amounted to £2 2s only, which practically reserves to the active members the full credit of the position shown. The membership has been fully maintained and many new performers made their appearance with credit to themselves and to the Society. The public now recognise the Operatic Society as a permanency, and while the standard of efficiency shown is maintained, your committee need not fear want of liberal support. The members are to be thanked for the manner in which the committee's rulings have been carried out and accepted, and it is hoped and expected that the same loyalty will be shown to the incoming committee. The Society is also indebted to Mrs Mcßeth for her valuable assistance in the inclusion of the ballet and also to the young ladies taking part therein. Your committee also wish to thank those ladies and gentlemen who so generously came forward with assistance in the orchestra, bur conductor and pianist especially meriting our highest appreciation. In conclusion it is desired to extend to the Press our best thanks for the kindness' and consideration shown throughout. Trusting that the babince-sheet will be found in order, for the Committee, F. H. Wilkie, Hon. Sec. The Balance-sheet. The total receipts were £154 13s, including £lO7 10s 6d from the first performance of "Pirates" and £34 13s from the second. The expenditure totalled £157 Is 7d. The cash in bank was £35 lis 7d, a balance of £3B 2s having being brought forward from the previous year. Office Bearers.
