BURNT TO DEATH.

Mereaini Teroro Taohi, a .Maori woman, aged 70/ was, burned to doaui at Kaihu on .Monday, and her wharo was also demolished. She was in the habit of leaving a J*g lire burning when she went to bed, and it is surmised the log rolled from the hearth, setting fire to the bed, which was near the fireplace. A verdict of accidental death was returned at the inquest.
FARMER'S DEATH
Whangarei, January 21
Frederick Hardy, 59, farmer, Ruatangata, was killed on Monday by a dray he was driving falling on him while turning a sharp corner." He leaves a widow and five children.
FISHERMAN'S DEATH
jDunedin, January 21
The body of Antoni Gratz was found in Lake Wakatipu, Queonstown, this morning. Deceased, who was formerly a fisherman of Timaru, was .sleeping in the Antrim at the wharf, and it is assumed that when he attempted to board her on the 7th inst. he fell into the lake.
