n WOMAN BURNT TO DEATH. [Per Press Association.] Oamaru, January 21. An old woman, Miss Maggie Douglas, was burned to death at an early hour this morning. Deceased was somewhat eccentric. She suffered from rheumatism and lived alone in a cottage in Torrfdge Street. A neighbour was awakened by the crackling of burning timber, but although the first person to arrive on the scene found the (ire had too strong a hold to give anv hope of rescuing the inmate. When the fire was subdued the charred remains were found lying against the back door.
