DOMINIONS COMMISSION.

ITEMS FROM THE REPORT.

.By Electric Telegraph—Copyright j Times—Sydney Sun Special Cables.

London, January 12

The Dominions' Commission's New Zealand evidence has been published. The witnesses examined unanimously emphasised the necessity for better organisation in England, complaining that New Zealand was less known than any other country. It is suggested tht steamer tickets should be sold to agriculturalists on time-payment at faalf-a-crown weekly.

Bitter complaints are made by the Hotel Workers' Union as to wealthy people engaging domestics by wireless before the arrival of the vessels, the shortage of domestics seriously affecting the health and well-being of New Zealand mothers.

Mr Tregear, ex-Secretary to the Labor Department, deprecated the impression that New Zealand was merely agricultural. He declared, that the Dominion will become the greatest manufacturing country of the Pacific. Witnesses urged that England should support Australia and New Zealand in their demand for a State-owned cable across the Atlantic.

The Commissioners were greatly impressed by the evidence of Mr Beauchamp, chairman of the Bank of New Zealand, suggesting the adoption of an Empire Development Board for controlling schemes imperially valuable, the dominions and tiie Mother Country jointly guaranteeing loans for approval purposes. THE EFFECT OF EMIGRATION. London, Januarv 12.

The Dominion's Commission heard evidence as to the drain caused by emigration in the English country districts. Evidence was tendered by some .members of the. Board of Agriculture that correspondents complained of the activity of emigration agents, and that there were no agricultural j workers to spare for emigration, and that it was not to the -interest of the 'Mother Country to be stripped of workers for the benefit of the colonies; also that unless free land and State facilities were offered, England would be at a disadvantage as compared with the colonies.
