EXPLANATION WANTED.
The Christchureli "Press" says the rumour thai Mr R. McXab intends to contest the 'Mat aura seat at the general election is interesting rather than
important. Mr McXab, of course, canno; hope to succeed there, and he can hardly be regarded as of very great consequence in politics now. Put it is none the less interesting that lie appears to have been reluctant to say he will stand in the interests of the Liberal Tarty. .Mr McXab would appear to have some idea of associating himself with tin- Labour people, but. he explained, he "has no time for revolutionaries, and lie would not /or a moment become associated with the new dual Labour organisation." This reads rather curiously,, when it is remembered that Mr McXab, during the Grey contest, wired to Mr Webb, to ."go in and win." That was certainly association "tor a moment" at the very least, and one which the Mataura electors can he excused for regarding a? one calling lor a little explanation.
