The twenty-second issue of the New Zealand Official Year Book, which is aow to hand, contains some now features and additions. The whole of the look lias heen carefully revised and in
all cases the information published is she latest obtainable at the date of publication. The compilation is speciilly due to Mr Malcolm Eraser, Government Statistician, and under his lirecrion an exceedingly useful hook jf reference has been produced. In part I. an article on "Earthquakes in New Zealand," by Mr G. Hogben, U.A., F.G.S., has been included, and iome rainfall and temperature curves 'lave been added to the portion dealing vith climate and meteorology, while :he historic section has also been revised and somewhat enlarged. We ire also given a description and sketch of the proposed new Parliament buildings as they will appear when completed, and a very handome pile they, iiake. Part 11. has been considerably! iltcred. The section dealing with population has heen re-arranged, and this !
rear contains information regarding the occupations of the people as ascertained at the census of 1911. In this section, and in that dealing with vital itatistics some interesting tables are riven. In the trade sections some liagrams have been, introduced dealing vith (1) trade l per bead of population,
(2) the proportion per cent, of various irticles of export in 181)2 and 1912, '■') exports of 'woo! and frozen meat, tnd (1) exports of butter and cheese. 1 The mining section has been largelyj re-written, and an article on water-i lower added thereto. An estimate of. the private wealth of the Dominion •omputod by a new method, is given in the section on accumulation, and
the explanatory portion of the valuation sections lias been revised and mlarged. Part ill', is devoted to articles on special subjects, and includes in account of the visit of H.M.S. Xew Zealand, by Mr W. E. Spencer, M.A., M.Sc; A slioii article dealing with the training slii;> Amokura, and a summary of the findings of the recent Forestry Commission also appear. Since the Vear Hook was first puhlisherl by the authority of the late Hon. John Ballance, the work lias nearly doubled in size, and may be looked upon as a valuable work of ready reference, j Certainly there, is no doubt that the J present issue is the best yet published.
