WORK AND WAGES.
MILLOWNERS* ASSOCIATION. (By Electric Telegraph—CofyrightJ [United Press Association.] (Received 9.5 a.m.) Melbourne, January 9. A general meeting of the Victorian Millowners' Association accepted the unions federated rate of wages in view of the fact that New South Wales' and South Australia had accepted them. BUILDERS AND LABORERS. AWARD COMES AS "A BOMB." (Received 10.5 a.m.) Sydney, January 9. The Builders' and Laborers' Federation award, which comes into operation to-day in all the States excepting Westralia fixes the minimum wage at Is 4}d per hour and reduces the hours to 44 weekly. Increases in the wages amount to thirty-seven and a half per cent. The Master Builders describe the award as a bomb, and intend to appeal to the High Court.
