A young man named Douglas Keir Gibb appeared today on remand, to answer a charge that, with intent to commit a crime, he attempted to cause a young person (a young woman) to bo eli'ected with chloroform. The evidence showed that the accused boarded at the house of the girl's parents and was madly in love with her, but his attentions had been rejected. He had been eccentric l'previously, and had entered her room with a. revolver, threatening to shoot himself. Counsel for the defence submitted that it was more likely that Gibb intended to chloroform himself,, not the girl. ' ' • Accused was discharged.
