A COMPLETE LOSS.

[Per Press Association.] ■ Hastings, January 7. A five-roomed dwelling in Terrace itoad, occupied by George Davidson (carrier) and owned by George Tucker, was destroyed .by fire early this morning. .Nothing was saved, insurances: House £250 in the State Offica, furniauQ £7.3 in the South British Office.

IN TELEPHONE EXCHANGE.

"Wellington, January 7

A fire occurred in the Wellington telephone exchange this morning. One of the- telephone wires evidently fell and came in contact with a high power tramway wire, fusing a section of wires on the distributing frame, which became red hot, and the insulating material, paraffin, etc., caught fire. The flames spread up to tUe ceiling. The exchange assistants endeavored to extinguish tne outbreak. but in the meantime the Brigade arrived and turned on the hose. The (ire was subdued, hut the water inter., fered with the work of the insulators. Otherwise the damage was trilling.
