; The Standard, commenting on the Chronicle's explanation of Mr Lloyd George's statement, says that ii tha words be taken on their face value, ho has no right to continue in the Cabinet; while, if they meant nothing, lie is unfit to sit in any Cabinet, Thu paper adds: "Any Minister who in levity and incontinence o\ speech, plunges the Continent in uneasiness and alarm is not wanted anywhere."

Both sides in the armaments controversy are initiating a platform campaign throughout the United Kingdom. rhe committee for the reduction of armaments is organising meetings, and the Navy League is similarly engaged.
Influential city men are arranging a meeting in favor of a strong navy. A number of Liberals are planning a campaign in favor of reduction of naval expenditure. NO DIMINISHING SUPREMACY. The Daily News says that the Liberal Party does not demand that Britain's naval supremacy should lie diminished, hut that no addition should >e made to the expenditure. It takes she stand that Mr Churchill's sixty per. cent, formula is over Germany's. THE CHANCELLOR CONGRATULATED.
