MOTOR CUSTOMS CASE.
FURTHER EVIDENCE. [By Electric Telegraph—Copymght] [United Press Association.] (Received 9.15 a.m.) London, December 29. Shorland, giving evidence in the motor aw fraud cases, declared that it was absolutely false to say his firm persuaded the issue of false invoices. Clerical mistakes were made on both sides. He often paid the customs too much rather than too little. Xeal's statement that his firm quoted unduly low prices was false. There was great difficulty in understanding (he customs regulations of which Australia's was the worst. He described Barkley's visit to the firm ' s being more than inquisitorial. • He supplied information under pressure, and Barkley's threat that if it was not given he (Barkley) would know how-to value Clement-Talbot cars when they reached Australia.
