THE POOR IN LONDON.

One hundred and .two thousand, eight hundred and eighty-seven poor are receiving relief in London, 72,894 being in workhouses, and 29,993 outdoor. Thes t . figures show a reduction of 710-j compared to the year 1912. but in view of the period of unequalled prosperity the diminution is considered disappointiug and disquieting. The proportion per thousand receiving relief in Poplar is 43, Bermondsey 38, St. Giles 39, Stepney 32. YVhiteciiapel 24, Islington 27.
