WANDERING STOCK NUISANCE.

SPECIAL RANGER APPOINTED

The fololwing letter from Mr H. Williams, caretaker of the East Egmbui Mountain House, dated November 25, Was read at yesterday’s meeting of the County Council: — “I beg to call your atention to the fact that at the end of Ppmbroke Road there are continually cattle and horses straying at all hours. This road, which leads into the reserve road, which you have recently put in good repair, should be kept free from these animals, as they get into the reserve and create, havoc on the newly-made road. 1 have remonstrated personally with the owners of these animals, and the only reply 1 got was to acquaint the poundkeeper of the fact of their being there. This more especially from, the owner of working bullocks. 1 trust you will move in tins matter ,at the larliest possible moment and thus prevent an otherwise first-class road being lamaged.” In a Supplementary letter, dated December 15th, he Stated that every day ince the date of the previous letter be had seen a number of Animals on the oad. He suggested that if he was tppointed a ranger .for, the locality ■e would ho able to keep Pembroke .load west clear, and as a consequence he lower reserve .track, which had iow been put in good order.

Messrs R., McK, Morison and E. tackson waited on the Council to urge l;e appointment of Mr Williams as •anger. Mr Morison said it was, desired that' Mr Williams be appointed ranger oyer Pembroke Road west qf Barclay .Road the unmetalled pprtion). Mr Wiliams was already ranger for the Park Board. The pound would be situated n the reserve.

After a short,discus,sjpn on the ppsiion of the Council in the matter, .the equost of the deputation was acceded
