RETIRING TEACHERS. RETIRING TEACHERS.
PRESENTATIONS THIS AFTERNOON.
Before the prize-giving was commenced at the school this afternoon presentations were made to live teachers who are leaving the staff.. The preSeirt hers or flip Committee. The departlavf'! Attests Cuthbert, Cleinmv, jVwhjrsi, CainCron and Gernfbo'efer. '! Bri rt.UB v« Mr Skogluhd, in making the presen-tations,-said-it gave him - pleasure tobe there that afternoon,, but lie, regretted that thedeacliolrs were leaving the service of the school. All the teachers had been traihed in the school, and each had been, a success. They could only hope that when they left the Stratford school further promotion would come to them in their new spheres. They could also hope that the exigencies of the service of the school would bring them back again to the service of the school. It was unfortunate that the teachers should go. Air Tyrer would have to train four new teachers; but he had no doubt that the new teachers would worthily fill their positions. Air Skoglund then, on behalf of the pupils and fel-low-teachers of the recipients, handed over the separate presentations. Three lusty cheers were then given by the children at the call of Air Skoglund. Air Tyrer said he felt the loss of the teachers more than anyohody. Others would come to take their places, but it would be remarkable if, even after three i’-mv foim years, the new teachers did "such excellent work as the departing teachers.. The new teachers would ! have a hard row to hoc. Some of the departing teachers had bad experience in the upper as well as the lower classes and bad also handled classes of all sizes. The schools which got the departing teachers would he very lucky. Air Tyrer said he had been asked to reply on behalf of the, ladies, hut he thought the duty was one more for a bachelor, and he called on the youngest bachelor on the staff, Air Buckler, to do so. Air Buchler replied shortly. He thanked the pupils and teachers 'for their tokens of esteem, and said ho felt sure that the teachers would value them and that the gifts would be a help, though lie thought it would not be exactly necessary, in remembering the pupils and teachers in the infant department of the Stratford t School. The presentation to Aliss Cuthbert was a pair of serviette rings, and to Aliss Gernhoefor two beautifully hound books, the others receiving ladies hags.
