Chief Justice Parker has resigned, and Justice McMillan has been appointed his successor, states a Perth cablegram.
Miss F. Cufilbert has resigned her position on the teaching stall of the Stratford School. The Education Hoard yesterday accepted her resignation.
Mr Victor Beck, advance for the “Smart Set” entertainers, was- in Stratford yesterday making preliminary arrangements for the Stratford performance on Bth January.
Mr Alfred Coleman has received advice from the University of Netv Zealand, that he has been successful in passing the section section of the Law Professional examination, comprising Equity, Criminal Law and Procedure.
The funeral of the late Mr Herbert |C. Bevins took plape this afternoon, the place of interment being the Kopuatama Cemetery. The Rev. Reader officiated at the graveside. Deceased, who suffered a 'long and painful illness, leaves his widow and two children and his sister (Mrs James Sharrock) to mourn his loss.
Mr W. S. Cochrane, who is at present on a visit to England, having resigned the secretaryship' of Anglican Diocesan Board at Auckland, a new secretary will be appointed, and the diocesan office staff rearranged, before Dr. Averill, the Bishop-elect, takes charge of the diocese.
Mr F. G. Hartley, who after thirteen years as manager of the National Bank’s branch at Outram, has been transferred to Stratford, arrived here on Tuesday evening and has now taken up his duties as manager at Stratford. Air Hartley, who was very popular in his old district, was entertained by a large and representative gathering of the whole of the residents of the Taieri district before leaving for the North Island.
Several changes and promotions are announced in the Railway staff. Mr 0. E. Lancaster, Petone, has received notice of transfer to Canterbury, and Mr G. Moore is to Till the position. Mr L. Aiken, stationmaster, Tohnsouville, is to be transferred to Petone. Mr E. J. Comer, stationmaster, To Awamutu, has been appointed to fill the position of stationmaster at Lower Hutt, rendered vacant through the retirement of Mr J. R. Hart on superannuation. Mr A. E. Firman, who held the position of chief clerk at the Timaru Railway Station for a number of years, is promoted to the office of traffic inspector at Christchurch, and will take up ais duties after the New Year. Mr L. B. Stansell, of the Wellington offipe, will take Mr Firman’s place at Timaru.

Mrs Walter Bevins, of Stratford, a ■asident for twelve years, last week offered a bereavement in the loss if her mother, Mrs Symons, who passcl away at Palmerston North, where lie had resided for forty years. Mrs ’ymons lived in Wanganui and Tnraana during the Maori wars,and suffered a good deal thereby, having to break ip three homes owing to the native ;mhhle. Deceased had been in failing lealth for some time, but the end came •ather unexpectedly. A family of six frown up children mourns her loss, dessrs G. J. Symons (Eltham) and M, Symons (Onga Onga) are sons of leceased, and the daughters, Mrs Wal :er Bevins (Stratford), Mrs J. Harris' Wellington), and the Misses Symons of Palmerston North. The relatives >ave received expressions of sympathy worn very many parts of New Zealand, he late Mrs Symons having been well mown and widely respected.
