A meeting of twelve dairy companies in the Manawatu decided to make a levy of j!,d per lb on the October batter fat for the Wellington Defence Committee towards the cost of boarding the wharf labourers in the early part of the strike. Hearty thanks were also conveyed to the Committee for the manner in which the port had been kept open.

Two Xew Zealanders who were attacked on the wharf on Monday were severely handled, one requiring hospital treatment having sustained a broken nose.
