The streets at Leeds are unswept and unlit: Many churches have dispensed with evening service. Civilians are maintaining a limited gas supply and an effective electric tramway; service in the day time. The strikers threaten to block the coal supplies.

The Municipal corporation contends that the strikers are well-paid, the gas-* workers, who are in the majority, r» ceiving 25s to 41s a week, street cleaners 25s to 345-, electricity workou 27s to 89s, and highway employees 261 to 39 s.
