AN ALCOHOLIC’S DEATH [Pee Press Association.] Carterton, December 16. At the inquest before Mr J. T. M. Hornsby, coroner, on the body of John MacLeod, who was found dead at the Taratahi Hotel, a verdict was returned that death was due to a diseased heart induced by the use of ‘alcohol over a number of years, no 'blame being attachable to anyone.

Auckland,' At the Police Court, John Hobbs, aged 23; and George Bowles, aged •22, admitted that they had damaged 'three motor-launches and stole three ; tiris of benzine. Tliey denied the theft of a quantity of jewellery. The chief detective stated that accused had found their way here with the proceeds of a robbery committed in another part of the Dominion. Thej * conceived the idea of proceeding to Australia, and took possession oi motor-launches, and annexed the benzine from another craft. A charge of theft of jewellery was adjourned. On the other charges accused were sentenced to three months’ hard labor.
COSTLY LANGUAGE. Palmerston North, December 15. 'Before Mr J. W. Poynton, S.M., today, William Nash, a recent arrival from Home, proceeded against Alfred Coy,, his lath employer, for using obscene language in a cowyard abutting the ‘road near Shannon. Defendant was-fined £lO and costs £2 2s Gd.
