LYTTELTON BY-ELECTION.
THE ABSENTEES FROM THE POLL IPkr Press 'Association.] Christchureh, December 10. The Labor and Preform organisations were hard at work again to-day making preparations lot - the second ballot on Tuesday. Particular attention is being given by both sides to people x\ . failed to vote yesterday. Allowing for the "dirty" condition of the roll it i estimated that nearly one thousand eligible voters omittted to record their votes. It seems reasonable to assum. that practically the whole of the organised Labor and regular Reform votes were polled. The majority of the absentees were probably not strong in either direction. The supporters of both candidates profess conifidence.
Mr M'Combs stood for the Avon seat at the general election, when the voting was as follows:—G. W. Pussel! 3854, J. M'Combs 3583, majority 271. Dr. Thacker and Mr Radcliffe both rorfeit their deposits (£10), having obtained less than one-fourth of the votes polled by the candidate at the head of he poll.
