A SETTLEMENT CLAIM.

Hugh Formby, the well-known athlete, and formerly tutor to Mr Samuel Hillwood, M.P., is suing Hillwood for £6OO per annum, which Hillwood settled, on Formby in 1900 to enable him to marry. Hillwood’s income is £13,UUU. Formby admits that in 1905 he inherited an estate valued at £4(3,000. Hillwood pleads undue influence; also that the inheritance invalidates the settlement. THE TEXAS FLOODS. (Received IT .33 a. m.) New York, December 8. Twenty persons were drowned in the Brookshire district, Texas, as the result of the floods, which are now abating. Further loss of life is not anticipated.
A MYSTERY OF THE SEA. (Received 11.15 a.in.) ' Washington ,December 8. Wireless reports have been received at Norfolk, West Virginia, stating that the steamer Rio Grande caught hie at sea and that the passengers were transferred to the steamer Swanmore ; that the latter’s crew extinguished the fire and re-transferred passengers.
